Fourth spell of monsoon rains starts in Punjab from tomorrow

The fourth spell of monsoon will start in Punjab from tomorrow (Sunday), with rain also expected in various parts of Sindh, Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir today.

The new monsoon system will affect multiple cities of Punjab, including Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Multan.

Relevant agencies have instructed to remain alert in view of a possible flood situation and landslides.

In Sargodha, many low-lying areas have been flooded due to rain, while rainwater has entered villages in Hafizabad.

Heavy rains caused widespread infrastructure damage, especially in Chakwal, where many key roads had been destroyed after the rains.

Rainwater entered the fields after a rainwater drain in Renala Khurd broke. Low-level flood conditions persist in Jhelum and Kashmore.

The water level in rivers and dams is continuously rising, while the River Indus flow at various places is touching dangerous levels.

Low-level flooding has been recorded at Kalabagh, Guddu, Chashma, Taunsa and Sukkur Barrage.

The floodwaters are expected to pass through Leh tonight, where emergency camps have been set up to meet any eventuality.

The rains have also wreaked havoc in Balochistan, where roads in Barkhan, Sibi, Musakhel and Zhob have been damaged, and standing crops have been destroyed in many areas.

The Meteorological Department has warned that a fresh rain spell is likely to hit parts of Sindh, Balochistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir today.

The relevant agencies have been issued an alert in view of the risk of flooding and landslides.
