Pothohar region floods: Over 1,000 residents evacuated safely amid heavy rains

Heavy rains in the Pothohar region yesterday resulted in flooding, prompting immediate action from the district administration and Pakistan Army personnel, who successfully evacuated more than 1,000 citizens to safety.

A rain emergency has been imposed in Chakwal, Jhelum and Rawalpindi, while helicopters were also used in the rescue operation.

Heavy rains in the Pothohar region yesterday led to a flood situation, after which the district administration and Pakistan Army personnel carried out timely rescue operations and shifted more than 1,000 citizens to safe places.

A rain emergency has been imposed in Chakwal, Jhelum and Rawalpindi.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, 398 citizens were rescued from Jhelum, of which 160 people were taken to safe places by helicopter. Around 209 people were evacuated from Chakwal, of which 182 were rescued by the district administration and 27 through aerial operations.

PDMA said that the district administration in Rawalpindi shifted 450 people to safe places, while 6 people were rescued from Nala Lai with the help of a helicopter.

According to DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia, no casualties were reported due to the timely rescue operation. He said that more than normal rainfall is predicted during the monsoon and the fourth wave of monsoon rains will start from July 21.

Irfan Kathia directed the citizens to take precautionary measures and stay in safe places. He assured that all resources will be utilized for the protection of the citizens.
