The federal government on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Islamabad High Court’s May 16 order in the Aafia Siddiqui case.

The federal government in its has sought the annulment of the court’s order.

In its appeal, the government argued that the Islamabad High Court on May 16 approved an amendment to the petition of Aafia Siddiqui’s sister, Dr Fauzia Siddiqui.

The government argued that the original plea filed by Dr Fauzia had already been addressed, including the granting of access to Aafia Siddiqui by the counsel.

The government claimed that the amendments to the petition were unduly prolonging the case.

The appeal pointed out that the Islamabad High Court was proceeding beyond the scope of Article 199 of the Constitution.

It requested the Supreme Court to annul the Islamabad High Court’s May 16 order.

It is important to note that on May 16, the Islamabad High Court had approved Dr Fauzia Siddiqui’s request to amend her petition in connection with the case of her sister Aafia Siddiqui.
