Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has directed the party members to forge unity and focus on the party’s protest movement, saying differences are being deliberately created in the party over the Lahore meeting.
Talking to the media outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday, Aleema Khan, sister of Imran Khan, said the PTI founder had conveyed two important messages and said that he and his wife Bushra Bibi, were facing injustice.
Aleema, who was accompanied by her two sisters, said her brother claimed that the newspaper supply has been suspended, while TV has also been shut.
“My human rights were being violated by the Jail Superintendent and a colonel, all these injustices are being carried out on the orders of the Field Marshal,” Aleema quoted her brother as saying.
Aleema, who earlier met her brother in Adiala jail, added that the PTI founder expressed dismay over rifts within the party over the Lahore meeting.
“Imran Khan emphasised that personal differences should be set aside and all focus should be placed on the movement. The founder is pleased that 300 parliamentarians visited Lahore together. Anyone creating divisions in the party will face the consequences,” she said.
Aleema Khan pointed out that her family stood by the party’s decisions, adding that we now have to pave the way for the founder’s release. The jail superintendent should end the inhumane treatment of the PTI founder, she added.
She further said that the founder believes parliamentarians must decide whether they want to remain in politics or not.
“What is the point of holding negotiations. The founder’s cases should be heard, and the issue will be resolved,” she added.
Meanwhile, PTI leader Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar has said the party’s movement in Lahore will continue until August 5.
Referring to the meeting with the Punjab Assembly Speaker regarding 26 assembly members, he added, “Opposition cannot be stopped from protesting.”
PTI central leader Salman Akram Raja stated, “The founder has given clear instructions that we need to discuss the Lahore meeting more in the media. The party will not issue tickets on the basis of money. We must now work together in unity.”
Earlier, speaking to the media at the Gorakhpur checkpoint, Aleema Khan welcomed the PTI parliamentarians’ meeting in Lahore, calling it a positive step forward.
She said, “The gathering of PTI parliamentarians in Lahore is a hopeful sign, and everything will be set right soon.”
Responding to a question, Aleema Khan said that no prior information had been given for not inviting the Punjab leadership to the meeting. It was told that this was a meeting of parliamentarians, she added.
