Two more intra-court appeals have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the verdict issued on June 19 in the high-profile judges’ seniority case.

The appeals were submitted by the Karachi Bar Association and advocate Shoaib Shaheen, urging the court to declare the previous ruling null and void.

In their petitions, the appellants took the position that the Supreme Court did not interpret the constitution correctly, particularly Article 200, by introducing the concept of permanent transfers, which they claim does not exist in the constitutional text.

The appeals further contend that judicial appointments can only be made through the Judicial Commission, and that the court’s observation — that a judge’s appointment can occur through transfer — is contradictory to constitutional provisions.

The petitioners also asserted that determining the seniority of judges does not fall under the authority of the President, adding that the judgment has undermined the constitutional framework for judicial appointments and transfers.
