Today, July 13, marks Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, a solemn occasion observed with deep respect in Pakistan and around the globe. Commemorating the 22 martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement, who lost their lives in 1931 outside Srinagar Central Jail while protesting against Dogra rule, Kashmiris worldwide are holding rallies, gatherings, and processions to honor their sacrifice.
Historical accounts reveal that these brave individuals refused to yield to oppression during the call to prayer (Azan). As each martyr fell, another rose to continue the Azan, leading to the martyrdom of 22 young men.
Their sacrifices invigorated the freedom struggle, inspiring the ongoing fight for self-determination among Kashmiris today.
In various districts of Azad Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, large crowds are participating in events that commemorate the martyrs and reaffirm the commitment to the freedom cause.
Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have released statements paying tribute to the martyrs.
President Zardari emphasized the historical significance of the martyrs’ bravery in standing against tyranny, while Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the ongoing sacrifices of the Kashmiri people for their self-determination rights.
He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri cause and its commitment to a fair resolution of the Kashmir issue in line with UN resolutions.
