In a significant move to support the farmers affected by the 2022 floods, the Sindh government has announced an increase in the relief fund for flood-hit regions.
Talking to the media, Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon said that the enhanced relief package includes compensation for crop losses, seed distribution, and financial aid for the restoration of affected lands.
These relief funds are part of the Sindh Flood Rehabilitation Programme, which has gained global recognition as the largest disaster housing programme of its kind.
In addition to the increased relief efforts, the Sindh cabinet has also approved the establishment of new industrial zones in Sukkur and Hyderabad.
These zones will be developed under a public-private partnership model, with 951 acres of land in Hyderabad being transferred to the Sindh Economic Zones Management Company.
The creation of these industrial zones is expected to generate over 55,000 job opportunities in the province.
The cabinet also approved an interest-free loan of Rs10.56 billion for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation.
This funding will be used for the construction of pumping stations, filtration plants, and reservoirs, with a target to complete the project within 11 months.
Sharjeel Memon stated that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with Sindh Bank to expedite the activation of the Benazir Hari Card, which will provide farmers with subsidies on agricultural costs, easy loans, and financial assistance for disaster recovery.
So far, over 237,000 farmers have registered for the card, and 88,871 applications have been verified.
The senior minister emphasised that transparent governance remains a top priority for the Sindh government.
