Newly appointed chief justices for three high courts in Pakistan, Sindh, Peshawar, and Islamabad, officially took oath of office on Wednesday, marking a major development in the country’s judicial leadership.
In Karachi, Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar was sworn in as the 26th Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Governor House, where Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori administered the oath. Chief Secretary of Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, read out the official notification of his appointment.
The ceremony was attended by judges of the high and district courts, office-bearers of the Sindh High Court Bar Association and Karachi Bar Association, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, senior minister Sharjeel Memon, IG Sindh, diplomats, business leaders, and other dignitaries.
In a separate ceremony at the Governor House in Peshawar, Justice S.M. Attique Shah took oath as the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court. The oath was administered by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who congratulated the new chief justice and expressed hope that he would uphold justice with integrity and dedication.
The ceremony was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, federal minister for SAFRON Amir Muqam, opposition leader Dr. Ibadullah, provincial ministers, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, IG Police Zulfiqar Ahmed, and senior legal and administrative officials.
In Islamabad, Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar took oath as the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court at a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House). President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath and wished the new chief justice well in his role.
The high-profile ceremony was attended by Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, senior lawyers, and political dignitaries.
President Zardari expressed confidence that Justice Dogar would play a key role in strengthening the rule of law and ensuring transparency in the justice system, especially at this crucial time in the country’s judicial history.
