Seven dead as monsoon rains wreak havoc across Balochistan

At least seven people, including women and children, lost their lives and seven others were injured in rain-related incidents across Balochistan, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Monday.

The PDMA report stated that 22 houses were damaged across various districts due to torrential rains and flooding.

In Washuk district alone, five homes were completely destroyed, while flash floods also affected homes and agricultural land.

In Loralai and Surab, strong winds and heavy rainfall damaged several houses and solar panels.

One person was killed by lightning in Musakhel.

The PDMA added that surveys are being conducted in the affected districts to assess damages.

Relief and rescue operations have also been launched to support affected communities.

More rain on the horizon

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh 12-hour weather alert, warning of heavy rainfall and flash flooding in several districts of Balochistan.

The districts under alert include Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Ziarat, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Washuk, Surab, Kharan, Lasbela, and the provincial capital Quetta.

The Met Office has warned of potential flooding in streams and nullahs, urging residents and local authorities to remain vigilant and take preventive measures.
