Trump announces 60-day ceasefire agreement as Gaza conflict escalates

Ceasefire negotiations in Gaza have gained momentum amid ongoing violence. US President Donald Trump has revealed that Israel has consented to a 60-day ceasefire, with efforts focused on resolving the nearly 21-month-long conflict.

Hamas has reportedly provided a “positive response” to mediators, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu labeled Hamas’s demands as “unacceptable,” yet sent negotiators to Doha for talks.

Trump’s comments suggest a potential deal could be reached soon, despite the ongoing hostilities.

Hamas’s key demands include the cessation of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, Israeli military withdrawals to pre-conflict positions, and international guarantees to prevent future escalations.

In turn, the US-backed proposal involves the release of Israeli captives held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, alongside phased Israeli troop withdrawals.

Netanyahu has agreed to the original proposal but insists that the war will continue until all captives are freed and Hamas is dismantled, a stance many analysts view as a long-term strategy to maintain political power amid legal challenges.

As negotiations unfold, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with ongoing Israeli attacks resulting in significant casualties.

The prospect of a ceasefire appears uncertain, with experts suggesting that Israel’s leadership may not prioritize peace.

The coming days will be crucial in determining whether a viable agreement can be reached.
