Govt to shut down all utility stores nationwide by July 10

The federal government has formally decided to close all utility stores across Pakistan by July 10. Acting on the Prime Minister’s directive, over 5,000 employees of the Utility Stores Corporation have been moved to the surplus pool, with approval granted for a voluntary separation package.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the Managing Director of the Utility Stores Corporation.

According to an official statement, the process of winding down operations at all active utility stores nationwide has commenced.

As part of the closure plan, goods currently available at the stores will be gradually shifted to warehouses.

These items will either be returned or auctioned under the supervision of relevant authorities.

The statement emphasized that auctions of inventory and assets from stores and offices will be carried out transparently across the country.

Additionally, notices to vacate rented store premises will be issued starting August 1.

The government has also initiated the process of evaluating the value of all assets owned by the Utility Stores Corporation.
