Heavy rains and resulting floods across Pakistan have caused significant human loss, with 43 people reported dead and 63 injured in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to reports from the disaster management authorities.
In KP, 22 people lost their lives, including 5 women and 10 children, while 11 others were injured in various rain-related incidents.
The PDMA reports that 75 homes were damaged, with 64 partially affected and 11 completely destroyed.
Major incidents occurred in Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Lower Chitral, Buner, and Swabi, with additional impact reported in Kurram, Charsadda, Malakand, Shangla, Lower Dir, South Waziristan, and Torghar.
Swat remains the worst-hit district, accounting for 14 fatalities.
In Punjab, 21 deaths have been confirmed, including 11 children and 3 women, while 57 people sustained injuries.
Most casualties occurred due to collapsing roofs and weak structures.
Major incidents include two lightning strike deaths in Khanewal and Okara, and the electrocution of two children in Mandi Bahauddin.
Meanwhile, in Muzaffarabad’s Jhelum Valley, a major landslide and flash flooding in Pathiyali Mangar Nullah stranded around 150 tourists, who were successfully rescued in a joint operation involving the Pakistan Army, local police, Rescue 1122, district authorities, and local residents.
Among those rescued were 33 tourists from Karachi.
The Meteorological Department has forecast further heavy rains on Tuesday, warning of potential urban flooding in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala.
An alert has been issued, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise extreme caution due to the heightened risks of flooding and landslides.
