KP CM expresses grief over Swat tragedy, establishes emergency flood cell

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and destruction caused by torrential rains and flash floods in the upper regions of the province, particularly in Swat.

According to a statement issued here, multiple individuals have been swept away by powerful flood waters in the Swat River. Rescue operations led by Rescue 1122 and local district administrations are currently underway at various locations.

Despite the strong current and difficult conditions, Rescue 1122 teams remain actively engaged in recovery operations.

The Chief Minister directed Rescue 1122 to intensify their efforts and utilise all available resources to locate and evacuate the remaining individuals as quickly as possible.

Gandapur added that prior alerts had already been issued regarding potential floods and heavy rainfall, emphasising that local administrations must ensure strict compliance with these warnings, especially by tourists and residents in vulnerable areas.

He further instructed the district authorities to implement the highest level of preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.

Flood Cell

On the directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, an emergency flood cell has been established to ensure swift coordination and timely response during the monsoon season, according to the CM’s spokesperson Faraz Ahmed Mughal.

The public is advised to report any flood-related emergencies or request assistance by contacting the dedicated helpline numbers: +92 340 9418852 and 1177.

In anticipation of potential flooding due to heavy monsoon rains, the spokesperson urged citizens to stay away from riverbanks, streams, and low-lying areas and to follow all instructions issued by local authorities.

Travellers were strongly advised to check the regional weather conditions before planning any trips during the monsoon season.

The spokesperson emphasised that strict adherence to precautionary measures was essential to ensure public safety in case of severe rainfall or flooding threats.
