Atlas Honda announced on Tuesday that it will introduce an electric scooter specifically designed for the Pakistani market within the current fiscal year.
The announcement was made through an official notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), following the federal government’s unveiling of the National Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy.
According to Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, the policy aligns with the premier’s vision of encouraging clean, affordable, and sustainable transportation, while also promoting local manufacturing and environmental protection.
One of the key goals of the new EV policy is to ensure that 30% of all new vehicle sales in Pakistan are electric by 2030. The shift to electric mobility is expected to save around 2.07 billion litres of fuel annually, translating into nearly $1 billion in foreign exchange savings.
Atlas Honda confirmed that it is actively coordinating with regulatory authorities to obtain the necessary approvals and ensure a smooth rollout of the new product.
“After completing all required quality and road testing, the company aims to launch the electric scooter within the current financial year,” it stated in its letter to the PSX.
This isn’t the company’s first foray into electric vehicles. In 2023, Atlas Honda conducted a soft launch of its ‘BENLY e’ electric scooter at its Sheikhupura facility.
Industry analysts believe that Atlas Honda’s entry into the EV space could play a pivotal role in accelerating the adoption of electric motorcycles in Pakistan, given the company’s strong presence in the two-wheeler market.
