May 9 cases: PTI MNA Abdul Latif among 11 sentenced over Ramna Police Station attack

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Friday sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of National Assembly Abdul Latif and 10 others to a cumulative 15 years and 4 months imprisonment in the case related to the May 9 attack on Ramna Police Station.

The verdict, delivered by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra, stated that the convicts were involved in attacking the Ramna Police Station, torching motorcycles, and launching an attempted murder assault on police personnel.

According to the judgment, “24 witnesses testified before the court.” Under anti-terrorism laws, the convicts were awarded ten years of imprisonment and fined Rs 200,000. Additionally, they were sentenced to five years for setting the police station on fire and attacking law enforcement, three months for interfering in official duties, and one month for violating Section 144.

Following the verdict, four convicts who were present in court were taken into custody by police.

The case is part of a broader crackdown on violent incidents that occurred on May 9, 2023, following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
