The sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Aleema Khan, rejected reports suggesting that the PTI founding chairman was engaged in any political deal. Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail on Tuesday, she said that Imran Khan had made it clear that no such discussions were taking place.
Aleema Khan stated that her brother had clarified three key points and had categorically ruled out any form of dialogue with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). She said that, according to him, the PML-N had destroyed the country’s moral values and that political reconciliation with such elements was not possible.
She further said that Imran Khan had emphasised there was no ongoing deal, and if any talks were to happen in the future, they would only be for the greater interest of Pakistan. Aleema added that he had reiterated his commitment to the principle of Amr bil Ma’ruf (enjoining good), and was standing firmly on the side of truth.
Aleema Khan remarked that Imran Khan believed those who were offered NROs in the past could not be trusted and that, in his view, such individuals did not speak the truth.
Earlier in the day, she complained about not being allowed to meet her brother despite a court order, and said that only two meetings had been permitted in nine weeks. She stated that she herself had been allowed to meet him just once during that period. She warned that if the authorities did not allow the scheduled meeting, she and others would not leave the jail premises.
She also alleged that Imran Khan had declined to meet PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry, stating that he believed Chaudhry had been sent by the establishment, and that he would not meet anyone sent through such channels.
Meanwhile, Uzma and Noreen Khan, two of Imran Khan’s sisters, were granted permission to meet him at Adiala Jail. Bushra Bibi, the former first lady, also received a visit from her daughter Mubashra Shaikh and sister-in-law Mehrunnisa. However, Aleema Khan, cousin Qasim Zaman Khan, and Muhammad Shaikh were reportedly denied visitation.
Separately, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, along with senior party leaders Salman Akram Raja and Ali Zafar, were permitted to meet the PTI founder. Following the meetings, all family members and party leaders left the jail premises.
