The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for the country, forecasting severe heat in most regions from May 15 to May 20.
Temperatures are expected to rise significantly above normal in the plains of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. A similar increase is also anticipated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, according to the alert.
On May 19 and 20, the department predicts the possibility of light rain and hail in Kashmir, Islamabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which may offer some relief from the heat.
On May 14, today, most areas are likely to experience hot and dry conditions, while some upper regions may see light rain accompanied by thunder.
Islamabad is expected to remain hot and dry, with occasional strong winds. Severe heat is particularly forecasted for the southern districts of Punjab, where temperatures could soar to 42 degrees Celsius. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary sun exposure and increase their water intake.
Hot weather is also anticipated across many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab; however, Kohistan and Mansehra may experience light rain with thunder, potentially alleviating some heat.
In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather is likely to be partly cloudy, but it will generally remain dry and relatively warm.
The Meteorological Department has advised the public to take precautions against the severe heat, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with health issues, urging them to stay out of the sun and stay hydrated.
