The Pakistani military’s large-scale retaliatory operation against India was officially named Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, because it was the last work of a Quran verse inscribed on the maihrab of a mosque destroyed in Indian attack on May 7 in Muzaffarabad.
Imtiaz Awan of Aaj News reported from Muzaffarabad that the Indian airstrike on the night of May 6–7 caused significant damage to a mosque. Etched on the mihrab of that mosque were the concluding words of Surah As-Saff (61:4): “ Bunyan-un-Marsoos“ — which translates to “a solid structure” or “an iron-fortified wall.”
Surely Allah loves those who fight in His cause in solid ranks as if they were one concrete structure. Quran 61:4
Moved by the symbolic weight of this Quranic phrase, Pakistan named its retaliatory campaign after it. The operation was launched on May 10, 2025, following days of unprovoked Indian strikes, including drone and missile attacks that targeted not only military sites but also civilians and places of worship.
It was decisive and forced India into accepting a ceasefire within 12 hours of the first Fateh missile was fired.

The name “Bunyan-un-Marsoos” encapsulates more than a military response — it represents an ideological and spiritual statement. It stands for unity, resilience, and unwavering faith in the face of aggression. “Bunyan” means foundation or structure, while “Marsoos” means firmly compacted or lead-reinforced. Together, they symbolise an unbreakable and united force.
The Pakistani armed forces, in response to India’s actions, targeted key Indian military installations, causing heavy damage and rendering several airbases and ammunition depots inoperable. Officials described the operation as a powerful testament to Pakistan’s military capability, national cohesion, and strategic clarity.
The operation is also a nod to the late Islamic scholar Dr. Israr Ahmed, who often described devout believers engaged in jihad as a “ Bunyan-un-Marsoos“ — an unyielding, God-favoured force. This concept, deeply rooted in Quranic teachings, has now manifested in what Pakistan describes as a “historic military and moral victory.”

The use of the Quranic term in the operation’s name serves as a message to both domestic and international audiences: that Pakistan’s strength is derived not only from its arsenal, but from its unity, faith, and the spirit of sacrifice.
