Electricity consumers, including K-Electric users, can expect a reduction in basic electricity prices, with a potential decrease of 78 paise to Rs 2.25 per unit, depending on the category.
Sources estimate that consumers could receive relief of Rs140 to Rs400 billion in the fiscal year 2025-26.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) for a tariff reduction from electricity distribution companies.
NEPRA will hold a hearing on this request on May 15, after which it will make a final decision.
The request suggests that the Power Purchase Price (PPP) for the next fiscal year will range from Rs24.75 to Rs26.22 per unit, compared to Rs27 per unit in the current year.
If NEPRA approves the tariff reduction, it will bring significant relief to consumers during a period of rising inflation.
