The Sindh government has announced a complete ban on all types of plastic shopping bags across the province, effective June 15.
The Department of Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development issued a formal notification detailing the new restrictions.
The ban applies to all non-degradable, oxo-degradable, black, and recycled plastic bags, marking the first comprehensive prohibition since a partial restriction was introduced in 2019.
The decision has been taken under amended provisions of the Sindh Prohibition of Non-Degradable Plastic Products Rules, 2014.
Climate Change and Coastal Development Department, Secretary Environment, Agha Shah Nawaz, stated that only eco-friendly bags will be allowed going forward and assured that the policy would be enforced with strict compliance and zero tolerance.
He stated that plastic bags are a major cause of environmental destruction.
Moreover, he confirmed that action will be taken against the individual who fails to adhere to this rule.
The department has urged citizens to support the initiative, calling environmental preservation a national duty.
