Karachi Intermediate exams begin today

The annual intermediate examinations have commenced under the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), with over 126,500 students appearing in both morning and evening shifts.

The board has begun the distribution of exam materials from the central office to examination centers, ensuring all necessary items are delivered on time.

Board officials will remain present at examination centers during the exams. After the exam ends, answer sheets filled by students will be sealed under supervision and returned to the board office.

The morning shift runs from 9:00am to 12:00pm and includes exams for Pre-Medical Science and other groups.

Today, grade 11 students are appearing for the Mathematics paper, which will last three hours.

Over 92,000 candidates are attending the morning shift, while more than 34,500 are scheduled for the evening shift, which takes place from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and includes General Science papers.

A total of 182 examination centers have been set up—122 for the morning shift and 60 for the evening shift. Among these, 36 centers have been declared highly sensitive.

According to Karachi Board Chairman Ghulam Hussain Sohoo, all preparations for fair and transparent exams are complete.

Letters have been sent to the Inspector General of Sindh Police, Commissioner Karachi, DIG Traffic Karachi, and K-Electric to ensure a smooth and secure environment for students.

Special security has been requested at 36 highly sensitive centers, and monitoring cells have been established to prevent cheating and handle any untoward incidents.

Complaint cells have also been set up in all district deputy commissioner offices, with board representatives present.

Due to high temperatures, a request has been made for Rescue 1122 services during exams. Section 144 has been enforced around examination centers, banning the presence of unauthorized individuals and the operation of photocopy shops in the vicinity.

Question papers are being securely transported from the board office to centers, each marked with a unique center code.

In case of any paper leak, the code will help identify the source immediately.

Any devices or mobile phones found at exam centers will be confiscated. To further curb cheating, the board has formed 16 super vigilance teams.

Results will be announced within two months after the conclusion of the exams, which will continue until Thursday, May 29.
