Karachi faces water supply disruption due to University’s main line burst

Karachi’s water supply has been interrupted for the sixth day in a row following a burst main line at the University of Karachi.

Reports indicate that repairs on the 84-inch line are still incomplete, impacting water availability in numerous areas.

Residents remain pessimistic about the situation improving soon, as repairs are anticipated to take more time. However, sources suggest that work may be finished by tonight or tomorrow, potentially allowing water services to resume.

In the meantime, many citizens are compelled to buy water at inflated prices from tanker mafias, while hydrants continue to supply water without interruption.

Areas such as Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal, Malir, Gulshan, Gulistan-e-Johar, and the Old City are experiencing significant water shortages.

Likewise, neighborhoods including Jamshed Road, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Gulbahar, Nishtar Road, Patel Para, and Defence are also affected.

Officials have confirmed that water supply is expected to be restored shortly in various city regions, but this will only occur after the completion of repair work.

A water supply disruption has hit Karachi following the burst of an 84-inch diameter pipeline, flooding extensive areas and submerging approximately 60% of the University of Karachi (KU) campus, on April 30. The flooding has affected residential colonies within the university, leading to the suspension of academic activities without any official notice. Additionally, numerous city areas are experiencing severe water shortages as a result of the incident.
