Imran Khan writes to CJP Yahya Afridi over ‘political victimization’

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and acting Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court Justice Sarfraz Dogar, raising concerns over what he terms as political victimisation and deterioration of the rule of law in the country.

The nine-page letter, drafted by senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja on behalf of the former prime minister, is titled “The State of the Constitution and Enforcement of Law in Pakistan.”

Imran Khan referred to over 200 cases registered against him and called the incarceration of both himself and his wife, Bushra Bibi, a result of a political vendetta.

The letter also mentions senior PTI leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, and Ejaz Chaudhry, highlighting their continued detention.

It further states that Khan has only been allowed to speak to his sons twice over the phone in the last four months. He has not been permitted to meet Bushra Bibi or even access newspapers. At times, he has been confined to a small cell for several days.

Due to the non-conduction of in-prison trial hearings, Khan claims he has not met his family or lawyers in the past two months. Even scheduled meetings with his legal team, according to him, have been denied.

The letter also touches on the February 8 general elections, the November 26 rally, and the 26th constitutional amendment. Khan asserts that the constitutional bench holds the authority to rule on key matters, including military courts and reserved seats.
