NDMA issues Storm alert as rain, hail lash parts of Pakistan

Weather patterns are shifting across Pakistan, with heavy cloud cover spreading over the northern regions, including the federal capital.

Rain has already begun in Islamabad, and according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), rain and hail are expected to continue in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The authority has warned of possible power outages and trees falling due to strong winds.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued storm and hail alerts for Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Areas including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and Poonch are likely to experience hailstorms, while upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Mansehra may also be affected.

Rain has also been forecast for Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal. The PMD predicts heavy downpours within the next 4 to 8 hours.

The department has cautioned that intense rainfall could lead to landslides and slippery road conditions. Additionally, there is a risk of flooding in streams and rivers across Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautionary measures over the next 24 hours.
