Punjab police successfully thwarts major terrorist attack in Dera Ghazi Khan

The Punjab Police successfully foiled a major attack by foreign terrorists in the Dera Ghazi Khan district early this morning.

A police spokesperson reported that between 15 to 20 armed terrorists launched an assault on a checkpoint during the pre-dawn hours, employing heavy weaponry, including rocket launchers.

The police utilised advanced thermal imaging technology to identify the assailants and countered the attack with machine guns and mortars.

It helped to prevent the terrorists from approaching the checkpoint, with initial reports indicating substantial casualties among the attackers.

Inspector General of the Punjab Police Usman Anwar commended the bravery of the officers involved in thwarting the attack, highlighting that the Punjab Police have now successfully countered a total of 19 terrorist attacks.

He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to defeating terrorists on all fronts, assuring the public that their safety and security remains the top priority.

This was the second major incident that happened in six days following a prior assault on the Dera Ghazi Khan’s Lakhani checkpoint on the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border, which was also successfully repelled.
