Pakistan introduces law to streamline technology zones

The Senate on Thursday passed The Special Technology Zones Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2025 with a majority vote.

The bill was tabled by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar in the house.

It aims to further streamline the functioning of the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) and promote the growth of Pakistan’s technology sector.

Senator Abdul Shakoor Khan presented the report of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Government Assurances, addressing a question raised by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed regarding the theft of files from a house in Sector I-10/4.

Khan presented the committee’s report concerning the solarization of agricultural tube wells in Balochistan.

A report from the committee related to Senator Zeeshan Khanzada’s question about the fiscal year 2023-24 was presented.

Senator Palwasha Khan remarked that the country is currently ranked second in terms of terrorism and questioned whom they should pray for, warning that those responsible could one day be present as well.

Senator Syed Masroor Ahsan brought attention to the case of a laborer in Lahore who set himself on fire in court because he felt he was denied justice.

He questioned who would advocate for these laborers, expressing concern that while they frequently speak up for themselves, no one voices their struggles.

Ahsan emphasized that the individual who took his own life did not receive justice and asked who should be held accountable for that.
