Governor Sindh writes second letter to SHC chief justice over Karachi traffic fatalities

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has written a second letter to the acting chief justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC), raising serious concerns over the rising number of fatal traffic accidents in Karachi.

He pointed out that administrative negligence and lack of law enforcement have become major causes of these incidents, leading to a significant loss of lives.

In his letter, the governor highlighted that just recently, four citizens lost their lives in a single day due to traffic accidents, a situation he described as alarming.

He also reminded the court that a previous ruling by the Sindh High Court prohibits the entry of heavy traffic into the city between 7am and 11pm.

However, he noted that violations of this order are becoming increasingly common, exacerbating the problem.

Since the beginning of the year, Karachi has recorded 108 traffic-related deaths, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws.

The governor had earlier written to the chief justice this month regarding the rising number of dumper and tanker accidents, expressing deep concern over the growing dangers on the city’s roads.

In his previous letter, he had urged authorities to take immediate action, stressing that the failure to implement traffic regulations was directly contributing to the increase in accidents.

He had called for strict measures against reckless dumper drivers and emphasised that protecting the lives of citizens must remain the government’s top priority.

With another tragic accident claiming four more lives, Tessori once again urged the judiciary to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that effective preventive measures are taken to curb further fatalities on Karachi’s roads.
