The funeral ceremony for Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, the 49th spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, was held at the Ismaili Centre in Portugal’s Lisbon on Saturday.
Family members, including Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini, the Aga Khan V, were sitting in the front row.
World leaders, including Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and other senior international leaders attended to honour the late Aga Khan’s life of service as Imam of the Ismailis and founder of the Aga Khan Development Network.
Family members, community leaders, Aga Khan University President Sulaiman Shahabuddin, and Habib Bank Limited Board of Directors Chairman Sultan Ali Allan were also present.
Prince Karim al-Husseini, 88, died on February 4. A ceremony to herald his successor is scheduled for next week.
The funeral was broadcast live on The Ismaili TV for Ismailis and others to participate in the prayers and pay their respects to the late Imam.
