There are as many as 13 routes of the electric bus service in Islamabad and it is expected that all buses would be brought on roads soon.
Earlier this month, the administration instructed the relevant department of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to deploy all 160 electric buses on routes and to introduce new ones for the benefit of citizens.
Approximately 70 of the buses are operational. It remains uncertain how many buses will actually hit the roads. The CDA has 16 charging stations, which reports said are insufficient for the needs of the entire fleet.
In response to this issue, a new depot was being constructed at Zero Point, where additional charging facilities will be set up.
Environmental expert Muneer Ahmed said the electric buses would not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment. “We have been advocating for eco-friendly transportation solutions for years, and it’s heartening to see the government taking concrete steps in this direction,” he stated.
