Punjab Excise Department launches whistleblower scheme to combat tax evasion

The Punjab Excise Department has introduced an initiative aimed at reducing tax evasion. Under this new scheme, individuals who report property tax evasion would receive 20% of the fines collected.

Excise officials have announced that both citizens and department employees can participate by reporting instances of tax evasion to earn rewards.

Offenders would be required to pay fines equivalent to the amount of tax they have evaded.

To ensure protection, the identities of whistleblowers who report tax evasion by employees and property owners will remain confidential.

This reward scheme, proposed by the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department, has received approval from the provincial cabinet as part of a broader whistleblower initiative.
