Bhati Gate tragedy: Firm working on Data Darbar expansion suspended
The private company involved in the Data Darbar expansion project has been immediately stopped from working, while the company’s owners, Usman Yasin and Salman Yasin, have been arrested, sources said on Monday
The action has been taken on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who has initiated an inquiry into the Bhati Gate tragedy in which a mother and her 10-month-old daughter died after falling into an uncovered manhole near the construction site.
According to the sources, not only has the concerned company been suspended, but a decision has also been taken to initiate action against government officials found guilty of negligence.
The construction site has been secured with modern equipment. The Bhati Gate area has been declared a restricted zone, and all construction work without proper safety measures has been completely banned.
Taking a firm stance, the Punjab chief minister said the era of “cover-ups” is over.
She said the scope of the investigation has been expanded and warned that accountability would be ensured for every act of negligence, with those responsible brought to justice.
She made it clear that there would be zero tolerance in Punjab for anyone endangering public lives and property.
Separately, Maryam Nawaz strongly condemned recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan, stating that the entire nation stands with the people of Balochistan.
She said the state will safeguard every inch of the province and stressed that national unity is essential in the fight against terrorism.
