PM Shehbaz, KP CM meet today to discuss security situation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is likely to meet Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi today (Monday) to discuss the overall security situation in the province, sources said.
Chief Minister Afridi will express his concerns over the issue of terrorism to the prime minister during the meeting, the sources added.
Discussions will also include the proposed operations in the Tirah valley, the displacement of local residents, and the payment of outstanding federal government dues.
The high-level meeting is being held amid plans by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to hold a protest march to Islamabad.
An announcement in this regard was made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi while addressing a jirga.
According to the chief minister, a grand jirga involving stakeholders from across the province would be held to deliberate on the proposed protest march.
The developments come amid differences between the federal and provincial governments over the evacuation of residents from the Tirah Valley.
The issue gained prominence after the federal government stated that neither the Centre nor the military had issued any orders for the depopulation of the area.
Both governments have since exchanged blame over who authorised the evacuation, as hundreds of residents left their homes amid fears of possible military operations.
