Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders on Friday ended a sit-in outside the Supreme Court after meeting Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and receiving assurances that former prime minister Imran Khan’s medical report would be shared with his family.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the assurance followed his meeting with the chief justice, which lasted over 30 minutes. He said the party had raised concerns over restrictions on meetings between the jailed PTI founder, his family members and party leaders.

The protest began earlier in the day after the government disclosed that Imran Khan had been taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad for a medical procedure.

PTI leaders demanded clarity and access, citing a lack of consultation with the family.

Senior PTI figures, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Latif Khosa and other lawmakers, gathered outside the apex court to press their demands.

Raja and Khosa initially went to the chief justice’s chamber but could not meet him due to his absence.

The two leaders later held meetings with the Supreme Court registrar and the attorney general.

Addressing reporters, CM Afridi said authorities had claimed political meetings were suspended, yet the leader of the country’s largest political party was “quietly shifted to a hospital.”

He was referring to a statement by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, who said Imran Khan underwent a 20-minute medical procedure for an eye ailment at PIMS on the night of January 24.

Afridi alleged contradictory statements by government ministers and called for Imran Khan’s personal doctors to be allowed to meet him, saying medical matters should not be politicised.

Raja said the PTI founder’s family was not consulted before the hospital visit and that officials had indicated a medical report would be shared with Imran Khan and his sister.

“Once the report is available, the family and personal doctors will decide,” he said, adding that the party viewed the case as one of unjust imprisonment and denial of family meetings.

He said PTI would decide its next course of action after an internal meeting.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas termed the situation “inhumane and unconstitutional,” alleging that court orders were being ignored and meetings with family members and colleagues were being blocked. He said the international community was watching the state of Pakistan’s judicial system.

The sit-in, which began in the morning, was called off after the PTI delegation met with the chief justice.

Heavy security remained in place around the Supreme Court throughout the protest.
