Nine people have died, and one child injured due to the ongoing rain and snowfall spell over the past two days in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Five houses have partially damaged, according to an initial report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The PDMA said the casualties were caused by incidents linked to rain, snowfall, avalanches, landslides and roof collapses since January 22.

Among the deceased are seven children, one man and one woman.

The incidents occurred in various districts, including Upper and Lower Chitral, Malakand, Shangla and Khyber.

The authority said the highways closed due to snow and landslides have been reopened, while machinery is still being used to clear roads in upper areas.

The PDMA has directed all district administrations to provide relief materials to affected people at the earliest.

According to the PDMA director general, relief goods have already been supplied to districts as per requirements.

The relief items include tents, blankets, beds, mattresses, kitchen items and other essential goods.

The Lower Chitral administration has been instructed to ensure immediate assistance to the families of the deceased and to speed up relief operations.
