A two-year-old girl injured after a kite string slashed her neck is recovering at Jinnah Hospital, doctors said on Monday, as another similar incident left a young man wounded in Lahore’s Green Town area.

Hospital officials said the child, identified as Zainab Fatima, was brought to Jinnah Hospital in critical condition after suffering deep neck wounds caused by kite string.

Surgeons from the hospital’s S-3 Unit successfully completed her throat surgery, after which she was shifted to the plastic surgery department for further care.

Doctors said the injuries were severe, but timely medical intervention helped save her life. Her condition is now out of danger and showing gradual improvement.

Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof Dr Tayyaba Wasim confirmed that the child’s health was steadily improving and that she was being provided all necessary medical facilities.

Zainab, who belongs to Kasur, has since been moved to a ward. Hospital sources said a medical board would continue to monitor her condition.

In a separate incident, a young man identified as Awais was injured after a sharp kite string cut his neck in Green Town. According to a medical report issued by Jinnah Hospital, Awais sustained a deep cut that required stitches. Doctors also conducted precautionary X-rays of his cervical spine.

Hospital officials said Awais’s condition was satisfactory.
