Karachi traffic police issue record e-challan to dumper owner

Owner fined Rs100,000 for operating dumper without tracker and fitness certificate; penalty doubles if unpaid

Karachi Traffic Police have issued the city’s largest-ever e-challan to the owner of a dumper operating without a GPS tracker and a valid fitness certificate.

The fine has been set at Rs100,000, and authorities warned that it will increase to Rs200,000 if unpaid within the stipulated period.

The action comes amid a broader crackdown on heavy vehicles, intensified following a recent accident in Razaqabad, in which a dumper without a tracker collided with a rickshaw, killing the driver, injuring several others, and damaging a van and a shop.

DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said only dumpers and water tankers with trackers under full control of the traffic police will be allowed to operate on city roads.

Vehicles with trackers but without police access will also face action.

“This step ensures accountability and prevents misuse of heavy vehicles, which pose a serious risk on our roads,” DIG Shah said.

He added that all operators must hand over tracker control to traffic authorities immediately, or their vehicles will be seized during routine checks.

Authorities emphasised that even vehicles meeting tracker requirements will be restricted to designated operating hours to enhance road safety and prevent accidents.
