KP stands with federal govt and armed forces in fight against terrorism: Adviser
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Adviser Muzzammil Aslam on Thursday said the provincial government is fully supporting the federal government and armed forces in the fight against terrorism.
In a statement, he highlighted that KP is the only province which had formulated a Provincial Action Plan to combat militancy.
“We are on the same page with the Centre, but political misunderstandings are often created,” he said, adding that the provincial government continued to cooperate in eliminating terrorism.
He said the provincial government has released Rs7 billion to the police, adding that bulletproof vehicles were also provided to enable law enforcement to confront terrorists.
“The KP government compensates civilians for any losses arising from intelligence-based operations,” he added.
On the issue of Afghan refugees, Muzzammil Aslam stated that the KP government seeks their dignified return.
“So far, 80 per cent of all refugees who have left Pakistan were from KP. The federal government has not provided a single rupee in support. The KP government has borne all costs of their repatriation,” he said.
He noted that the federal government has also withheld funds for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
“We are providing IDPs Rs400 million per month. Displaced persons from Bajaur and other areas have been paid Rs3.5 billion,“ he added.
Muzzammil Aslam said the federation owed KP substantial amounts, adding that two instalments of ADP funds due over four months have yet to be released.
The KP adviser also called for the inclusion of merged districts in the National Finance Commission (NFC) allocations.
“In the first four months, NFC allocations fell short by Rs65 billion, and Rs40 billion less in federal development funds have been released,” he said.
He said law enforcement agencies are monitoring the influx of refugees from other provinces, while the Ministry of Interior and provincial departments are working jointly to manage the situation.
