The year’s brightest and biggest supermoon will grace the skies tonight (Wednesday), visible clearly across Pakistan and in several parts of the world, according to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

A SUPARCO spokesperson said this is the second of three supermoons occurring this year and will stand out for its extraordinary size and brightness.

The moon will appear about 16 per cent brighter than normal, the official added.

Experts explained that a supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth in its orbit, making it appear significantly larger and more luminous than usual.

According to SUPARCO, the moon will reach its maximum brightness at 6.19pm, when it will be just 221,817 miles from Earth — about 9.7 per cent closer than its average distance.

This is the second supermoon of 2025, with the third expected in December.

Astronomers have described tonight’s spectacle, known as the Beaver Supermoon, as the largest and brightest of the year.

Due to Pakistan’s clear winter skies, the event will be especially visible across the country.

Experts advised that the best views will be in areas away from city lights, where the moon will appear most vivid and beautiful.
