Sindh launches second phase of pink scooty scheme for women

Sharjeel Memon urges women to get driving licences, register for free training

The Sindh government on Tuesday announced the launch of the second phase of the pink scooty scheme aimed at facilitating women’s mobility across the province.

Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the government would soon begin distributing pink scooters to women under the second phase of the initiative.

He urged women to obtain their driving licences, attend training courses, and register for the programme.

The minister added that the provincial transport department is providing free training and driving licences to women.

The scheme primarily targets female students and working women to help them overcome daily commuting challenges.

According to Sharjeel Memon, the first phase of the pink scooty project received an overwhelming public response, with dozens of women learning to ride, obtaining licences, and adopting the scooters for their daily routines.

“The Sindh government wants more women to benefit from this facility and continue their educational and professional journeys with safety and dignity,” he said.

Sharjeel Memon added that initiatives such as the People’s Bus Service, Pink Bus Service, Electric Bus Service, and now the Pink Scooty Programme aim to provide citizens with affordable, safe, and respectable transport options.

He said empowering women is not merely a government initiative but an integral part of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) political and human philosophy.

“Women’s empowerment is a central pillar of the PPP’s ideological journey — a continuation of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s vision,” he said.
