E-challan enforcement begins in Karachi, citizens fined over Rs12 million in six hours

The enforcement of the e-challan system began in Karachi on Tuesday, with citizens fined over Rs12 million within six hours of implementation, according to a report by the Karachi Traffic Police.

The report stated that a total of 2,662 e-challans were issued during the initial hours. These included 419 for overspeeding, 3 for lane violations, 4 for stop line breaches, 1,535 for not wearing seat belts, 166 for running red lights, and 507 for riding without helmets.

Four challans were issued for wrong-way driving on one-way streets, 7 for tinted windows, 5 for wrong parking, 32 for using mobile phones while driving, 5 for illegal parking, 5 for parking in no-parking zones, and 3 for driving in the wrong direction.

Traffic police officials estimated that fines worth over Rs12 million were recorded within the first six hours of the e-challan enforcement.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had inaugurated the Traffic Regulations and Citation System in Karachi yesterday.
