Government decides to shut down all Afghan refugee camps in KP
The federal government has decided to shut down all Afghan refugee camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) on Thursday.
The ministry directed the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees to close the remaining 28 camps across the province and hand over the land to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
According to the notification, eight camps in Peshawar, three in Nowshera, five in Hangu, and four in Kohat have already been closed.
Similarly, two camps each in Mardan and Swabi, one in Buner, and three in Dir have also been shut down.
The move marks the final phase of the federal government’s plan to wind up all registered Afghan refugee camps in the province.
