Explosion derails five carriages of Jaffer Express near Shikarpur
A heavy explosion derailed five carriages of the Jaffer Express on Monday near Sultan Kot, Shikarpur, resulting in multiple injuries to passengers.
According to officials, the injured passengers have been shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Rescue operations are currently underway at the site.
Police and Rangers have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the nature of the blast. Initial reports indicate that the railway track sustained significant damage in the explosion.
Jaffer Express was heading from Peshawar to Quetta when the explosion occurred near Sultan Kot Railway Station.
This was not the first time the Jaffer Express had been attacked.
In August, a bomb on the track derailed six bogies of the Jaffar Express in Mastung. No deaths were reported in that incident.
A powerful explosion of a remotely-controlled explosive device fitted to rail tracks caused four bogies of the Jaffer Express to derail near a cattle market in Jacobabad in June.
On March 11, 2025, militants from the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) attacked the Jaffar Express while it was travelling from Quetta to Peshawar. All 33 attackers were later killed in a security forces counter‑operation.
