Floods hit Sindh: govt declares agricultural emergency

Nearly 300,000 cusecs flow through district

Rising water levels in the Indus Rivers have triggered a flood situation in Naushero Feroz, submerging several settlements and forcing residents to migrate on their own.

According to the Irrigation Department, around 300,000 cusecs of water is currently passing through the district.

The flood threat also persists in Kashmore, while water levels continue to rise at key points along the river, At Panjnad, the water flow has reached 665,576 cusecs, while upstream at Guddu Barrage it stands at 512,662 cusecs.

Meanwhile, the federal government has declared an agricultural emergency in light of climate change impacts and the ongoing floods.

As part of relief measures, 42 new seed varieties suited to current weather conditions have been approved for cultivation.

Authorities also announced that free seeds, fertilizers and agricultural chemicals will be distributed to provide financial support to flood-affected farmers.
