An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday sought final arguments from lawyers on the bail petition of Shershah, Aleema Khan’s son and nephew of PTI founder Imran Khan, in the Jinnah House attack case.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul conducted the hearing, during which Aleema Khan appeared in court along with her sisters to support her son.

Defence counsel Rana Maddasir Umar argued that Shershah, who is also the nephew of PTI founder Imran Khan, was arrested on political grounds. He maintained that no evidence exists against the accused and urged the court to grant him bail.

The police, however, requested more time to produce the case record. The court directed the prosecution to present the record and adjourned the bail hearing until September 2.

Yasmin Rashid’s appeals in LHC

Meanwhile, in a related development, PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid filed appeals in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against her convictions in three separate May 9 cases.

The cases include the Shadman police station attack, arson incidents at Sherpao Bridge, and the burning of vehicles near Jinnah House.

In her petitions, Yasmin Rashid argued that the trial court had failed to properly assess the facts and pleaded that her sentences be set aside.

She also requested that the LHC suspend her punishment and order her release until a final verdict is announced.

The ATC had earlier sentenced Dr Yasmin Rashid to 10 years in prison in each of the three cases, amounting to a total of 30 years.
