The Meteorological Department on Sunday issued a new flood alert from September 1 to 3 amid heavy rainfall across the country, which raised the risk of flooding in rivers and streams.

Extremely high-level flooding is expected in the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, and Chenab rivers, the department warned.

There is also a risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, and Gujrat divisions from September 1 to 3, while more heavy rainfall has been forecast for central and northern Punjab.

The department warned that heavy rains are likely in the upper areas of the Sutlej and Beas rivers, while there is a risk of high water flow in the tributaries of the Ravi and Chenab rivers.

Flood alert in three rivers from September 1 to 5

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Punjab, has warned of extremely high-level flooding in the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab rivers and their tributaries from September 1 to 5.

The PDMA said an extremely high-level flood is expected at the Trimmu headworks on the Chenab River in the next 24 hours, while the high flood conditions at Ganda Singh Wala will persist.

According to the PDMA, there is a possibility of India releasing more water into the three rivers, amid heavy rains in the upper regions of the rivers until September 3.

The PDMA has instructed the commissioners of Lahore, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, and D.G. Khan to keep all departments on alert in their respective districts and ensure necessary preparations.
