World Bank approves $47.9 million grant for education in Punjab

Initiative aims to enhance early education participation and reintegrate out-of-school children into the educational system

The World Bank has sanctioned a grant of $47.9 million aimed at enhancing education and integrating out of school children in Punjab, Pakistan.

This funding is part of Global Partnership for Education Fund and is expected to benefit over 4 million children, including those in pre-primary and primary education.

The primary goal of this initiative is to boost early education participation reintegrate out of school children into the educational system and strengthen provisions for children with disabilities.

According to a statement from the World Bank, the project will directly assist 80,000 out of school children and 140,000 children with disabilities.

Additionally, it will encompass more than 3 million students enrolled in government schools and 8.5 million children in non-formal education institutions.

The project will also focus on training and professional development for 100,000 teachers and school leaders, enhancing the over all quality of education.

The World Bank emphasised that this initiative will contribute to systemic reforms in Punjab and mark a significant step toward sustainable educational development in the province aligning with the Punjab government’s education reform agenda.
