KP floods: Over 320 dead, more than 200 missing in flash floods, cloudburst
At least 323 people have lost their lives, 159 others have been injured, and more than 200 remain missing due to flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to official figures.
Buner district has reported the highest number of fatalities, with 209 deaths. Other affected districts include Shangla (37), Mansehra (24), Bajaur (21), Swat (16), Lower Dir (5), and Battagram (3).
On Friday, torrential rains, lightning strikes, and flash floods battered parts of Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sweeping away homes and infrastructure. Landslides, overflowing rivers, road blockages, and soil erosion have paralysed daily life in many areas.
A detailed report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed the loss of 323 lives, including 273 men, 29 women, and 21 children. The injured include 123 men, 23 women, and 10 children.
The PDMA added that the monsoon rains and floods damaged 159 houses across the province—97 partially and 62 completely. The worst-hit districts in terms of housing damage include Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram.
Authorities warned that the death toll could rise further as many victims are still unaccounted for and rescue operations continue amid difficult terrain and blocked access routes.
