Pakistan and the United States on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms, issuing a joint statement after the Pakistan-US Counter-terrorism Dialogue held in Islamabad.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Special Secretary for the United Nations, Nabeel Munir, and the US State Department’s Acting Coordinator for Counter-terrorism, Gregory D. LoGerfo.

Both sides stressed the importance of developing effective strategies to address threats posed by terrorist groups, including the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The US delegation expressed condolences to the victims of recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan, including the Jaffar Express attack and a bomb blast on a school bus in Khuzdar.

The United States also acknowledged Pakistan’s continued success in countering terrorist organisations that threaten peace and security in the region and beyond.

The joint statement underscored the need to strengthen institutional frameworks, enhance capabilities to respond to security challenges, and counter the use of emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.

Both sides pledged to work together at multilateral forums, including the United Nations, to promote an effective and sustainable approach to counter-terrorism.

Reaffirming the long-standing Pakistan-US partnership, the statement emphasised that sustained and structured engagement is essential to defeating terrorism and promoting peace and stability.
