Search continues for father-daughter duo swept away in rainwater drain
The search continued on Wednesday for retired Colonel Ishaq Qazi and his 25-year-old daughter who went missing after their car was swept away in storm drain in Islamabad.
The incident happened in Islamabad’s private housing society.
According to sources, rescue teams have started digging the road leading to Sawan Bridge, while rescue officials said that the search operation will continue uninterrupted until the victims are recovered.
The tragic incident occurred when Colonel (retd) Ishaq Qazi was in the car with his daughter. Due to heavy rain, water accumulated on the road, and his car got stuck in the water. Strong water currents pushed the car into the storm drain which swept it away.
According to eyewitnesses, Ishaq Qazi called out for help, but due to the intensity of the water flow, no one could reach for his aid.
Further the car reached the underground passage of the drain, where the water pressure was very high.
Rescue 1122, Navy divers and other rescue teams responded after the incident and launched a search operation.
The operation has been expanded and the rescue workers were using drones, modern cameras and helicopters, while the areas around the drain are also being investigated.
According to rescue officials, the underground channels inside the drain and the direction of water flow are also being checked.
