Gandapur challenges rivals to topple KP government
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has thrown down the gauntlet to political opponents, declaring that no one can topple the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government through constitutional means.
Speaking after a joint parliamentary party meeting of the PTI in Islamabad, Gandapur vowed to quit politics if his government is removed outside the ambit of law.
“This meeting sends a clear message of unity. Our opponents are mistaken if they think they can split PTI,” said Gandapur.
“Try as hard as you want, this government won’t fall unless it’s unconstitutional — and if it does, I’ll walk away from politics,” he asserted.
The chief minister accused the federal government of trying to coerce him into turning against PTI founder Imran Khan, stating that he was arrested before the events of May 9.
“What line did we cross on May 9?” he asked. “This entire drama was orchestrated just to target Imran Khan.”
He labelled the 26th Constitutional Amendment as a judicial assault and called the PECA law a tool to suppress the people.
Gandapur emphasised that PTI’s vision and ideology stem from the founder, and the government has not even allowed leaders to meet him in prison.
He warned, “The federal government is acting like a pharaoh.”
Citing PTI’s achievements in KP, he highlighted increased revenue, the launch of health cards, better performance in social sectors than Punjab, and zero drone strikes during their tenure. He claimed that terrorism surged under the PDM government.
Border policy and terrorism
Gandapur also criticised the federal government’s approach to security, urging a policy shift towards Afghanistan.
“Afghan terrorists are behind recent attacks in KP. Who controls the border? Why are terrorists entering Pakistan?” he asked. “We are not calling for talks with militants — we want talks with the Afghan government.”
Barrister Gohar: PTI united under founder
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the meeting aimed to show that the party stands united.
“Even after our mandate was stolen, we have continued to call for dialogue. Our leaders must be allowed to meet Imran Khan. We will defend the KP government at all costs,” he said.
He claimed those seeking to bring a no-confidence motion lacked the numbers.
“Let anyone try — we’re ready,” he added. Gohar reaffirmed PTI’s commitment to protecting Imran Khan’s public mandate.
PTI’s central information secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, said efforts were underway for the release of all political prisoners.
He rejected the ECP’s decision on reserved seats and said the PTI would continue its struggle through peaceful protests and negotiations.
Party leader Junaid Akbar also dismissed internal rift speculations, saying both NA and KP leadership participated in the meeting.
“We may differ on internal matters, but we remain united under the call of our leader, then and now.”
